Discussion 9 – Community
One of the largest components of CrossFit is a strong sense of community. You can look world wide to find CrossFit affiliates and all will be willing to help out others without hesitation. At CrossFit Edmonton it is one of our primary missions that all members feel that they are a strong part of our community. We feel that anyone and everyone is welcome in any class and should rightfully feel that way.
To try and encourage this sense of community even further we would like to start a monthly social event for all of our members and their families. Our thoughts so far is to have CrossFit Edmonton dinner or event on the first Tuesday or Wednesday of every month. These days because it would be easier to make group reservations. The discussion this week is what times during the week would be best for you and also what types of activities you’d like to do. Please post your suggestions and interest to comments.

I would be more than happy to host an event at my home… I am a gourmet chef and regularly host very large dinner parties… And my condo is designed for entertaining…

I LOVE THE IDEA!!
Crossfit has so many neat interessting people I would really enjoy getting to know.
Any evening would work for me! (time after 7pm is best…earlier could work depending on the week)
Ideas:
Dinner OUT or IN
Back yard BBQ’s
“fun night” bowling?..etc..

Another fabulous idea from the CrossFit gang!
We have a diverse group of people and we all have something to offer. I’d love to meet more of you!
Dinner and activities are a great idea. I love it when someone else cooks for me. Picnics at Lion’s Park are fun for families.
Something to think about would be to have guest speakers on health and fitness related topics. Dieticians, sports psychologists, high level athletes and their experiences.
Tuesdays work best for the Kaine Gang as I generally run with the Running Room on Wednesdays.

I’m in for any sociable! Being relatively new to St. Albert and Edmonton area, I would LOVE to get to know the members within the Crossfit community. Everyday I feel more at home and this would seal the deal for me.

Sounds good! Ideas tossing around in my head are ultimate, crossfit olympics or track&field (handstand sprints,kettle bell shot put,etc.), flag football.
Evenings after 7 and weekends work best for us, and we’re definitely willing to host something at our place.

Sounds like fun. We will definately try to work it into our schedule whichever night is chosen. Why not alternate nights each month so everyone feels included.

Socializing once a month would be a great way to build the “crossfit community”. Tuesday or Wednesday works for myself. Alternating the days each month as suggested by Patti is a good idea. Potlucks for dinners,BBQs usually seem to work out well if you give a rough estimate how many people should bring appetizers, salads, main dishes etc.. The suggestions already given by others are great ones to consider!

Happy to participate- however like Kim my first Tuesdays of the month are currently booked. Any other Tuesday or Wednesday is fine!
